Sriwijaya FC Struggling for Form, Coach Reveal Reasons

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Sriwijaya FC are struggling for form, winning only one out of their last six matches in Liga 1. They were recently defeated 3-4 by PSM Makassar at their home ground.
Sriwijaya FC coach Hartono Ruslan said that his defenders often lost focus during the PSM Makassar clash.
“The players were often complacent and not focused. Had they managed to be more focused, the result would be different,” Ruslan said yesterday in Palembang.
He sees that after scoring the first two goals, the backline should have been done better to defend their lead. Yet, the opposition managed to score three goals in quick succession.
“Had they not gone to sleep, a victory would have secured already. But that’s football, things change quickly,” he said.
Full concentration was imperative particularly against PSM who had clinical forwards, according to Ruslan. “We should do our homework going forward,” the coach said.
As such, Sriwijaya’s poor league form continues as they stuck in 12th place in the table with 28 points from 24 games.
The 2007-2008 double winners suffered three losses in their last three matches, namely against Persib 1-4 at home, 0-2 to Barito Putera away and 3-4 over PSM Makassar at home.
Sriwijaya FC will play their next match against Madura United on September 22.
