TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The situation in Jakarta is under control after a violent protest at the Legal Aid Institute (LBH) Jakarta last night, the police say.
The police and military members evacuated 68 people from LBH Jakarta building to the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) office. The police managed to take control of the situation after protesters tried to break into the building, said Jakarta police chief Insp. Gen. Idham Azis. “The most important thing is that people at the YLBHI office are now safe.”
Komnas HAM chairman Nurkholis and commissioner Natalius Pigai had earlier been informed about the evacuation plan. “Protesters were asked not to carry out anarchistic acts,” the police said, adding that they ignored it. Instead, they threw rocks at police and the LBH building.

“If I remember it correctly, five of my men suffered head wounds,” Idham said. They had been admitted to the hospital and are recovering well. The police have arrested five alleged provocateurs.
Early in morning, four police cars were driven from LBH Jakarta building to Komnas HAM office, which is now guarded by the police.
Komnas HAM commissioner Natalius Pigai said that LBH Jakarta building is now empty. Three to four individuals were injured during the evacuation. “One of whom suffered a pretty heavy injury.” The injured will immediately be taken to the nearest hospital.
