TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Gerindra Party chairman Prabowo is the biggest contender of Joko Widodo alias Jokowi in the upcoming 2019 presidential election, survey says.
The result was shown in surveys conducted by three pollsters: Financial Time Confidential Research (FTCR), Saiful Mujani Research Centre (SMRC) and Indo Barometer. “Anything can happen. But there will be two or three tickets in 2019 election, Jokowi against Prabowo. Another ticket depends on how Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono positions the Democrat Party,” Indo Barometer Executive Director Muhammad Qudori told Tempo yesterday.
Indo Barometer survey in April indicates that 66.4 percent of 1,200 respondents in 34 provinces were satisfied with and trusted Jokowi. Moreover, 31.3 percent of respondents said that they would vote for Jokowi if the election were held now. Meanwhile, Prabowo ranked second with 9.8 percent, followed by former Jakarta governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama alias Ahok with 8.3 percent.
SMRC survey in June showed similar results with Jokowi topping the table of electability rating with 34.1 percent, followed by Prabowo (17.2 percent), Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (1.9 percent), Hary Tanoesoedibjo (1.1 percent) and Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (0.9 percent).
Meanwhile, FTCR poll on June 25 showed that 53 percent of respondents said that Prabowo was Jokowi’s biggest contender. Basuki Tjahaja Purnama ranked second with 19 percent, followed by the National Armed Forces (TNI) commander Gatot Nurmantyo (15 percent) and Bandung Mayor Ridwan Kamil (13 percent).
