Lion Air, Wings Air Planes Clip Wings at Kualanamu Airport

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Two aircraft belonging to Lion Air and Wings Air clipped wings at Kualanamu Airport, Deli Serdang, today, August 3. The incident caused disruption up to 20 minutes.
The two aircraft reportedly clipped wings at 11:10 am local time. Wisnu Budi Setianto, Branch Communication and Legal Manager of Kualanamu Airport, said that airport operations have returned to normal.

The incident took place at the airport taxiway, Wisnu said. Lion Air’s Boeing 737-900 aircraft that arrived from Sultan Iskandar Muda Airport, Banda Aceh, collided with Wings Air plane that was taking off at Kuala Namu for Cut Nyak Dien Airport, Meulaboh.
Wisnu said that the airport authority is currently investigating the incident to find out the timeline of the event and its causes.
Lion Air Group has confirmed that there were no reports of casualties in the incident. Wings Air passengers were either given a full refund on the spot or allowed to reschedule the flight.
“Meanwhile, Lion Air passengers who intend to fly elsewhere will be flown by the next Lion Air Group planes on the same day,” said Andy M. Saladin, Lion Air Group’s Public Relations Manager.
