TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Communication Ministry said that the government targets Cyber and National Encryption Agency (BSSN) to begin operating in September this year.
"BSSN is planned to be finalized in September this year and it will immediately begin working. One of the responsibilities is to monitor and anticipate cyber attacks," the Communication and Information Technology Minister Rudiantara said in Jakarta on Friday, June 30.

He added that the preparation of this non-ministry governmental institution under Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Ministry (Kemenko Polhukam) is entering the stage of arranging its organizational hierarchy and its deputies’ job descriptions.
Rudiantara also revealed that BSSN is targeted to complete four months after its establishment on May earlier this year, yet it is expected to complete earlier due to poor cyber security in Indonesia.
He explained, "The poor cyber security makes Indonesia falls into the top ten countries vulnerable to cyber attacks. Indonesia places seventh, sometimes sixth or even top five."
BSSN was officially established by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) by means of Presidential Decree (PP) No. 53/2017 on 19 May 2017 in which its main responsibilities encompass measures of detection, protection, counter, recovery, and mitigation against cyber attacks.
