TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that there were 1.14 million foreign tourists who visited Indonesia in April 2017.

The number increases 26.75 percent compared to the number of visits in the same period in 2016 which was 901,090 visitors. Compared to March 2017, it also increased as much as 7.09 percent.

“The number of foreign visitsonApril 2017 consists of foreign tourists who visited through 19 main gates as many as 994,130 visits, and the foreign visitors who made a visit other than through the 19 main gates were 148,050,” BPS head Suhariyanto said on Friday, June 2.

The overall number of foreign visits from January to April 2017 reached 4.2 million visits, or it went up 19.34 percent compared to the same period last year which were 3.52 million visits. Based on such figures, foreign visits from 19 main gates dominated with 3.72 million visits and the visits from the remaining gates reached 474,870 visits.

The rise of the number, Suhariyanto claimed, is influenced by the launch of international flight routes in several airports which boost the frequency of flights. The highest increase of foreign tourists was found at Sam Ratulangi Airport, North Sulawesi, and Internasional Airport in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara.
