TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Researcher from Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting (SMRC) Deny Irvani, revealed that support towards Jakarta governor candidate pair Basuki Tjahaja Purnama and Djarot Saiful Hidayat, also known as Ahok - Djarot, showed a positive trend during the last month.
"The support for Ahok-Djarot increased 3.1 percent. Meanwhile, support for Anies-Sandi dropped 2.8 percent," Deni said on Wednesday, April 12, 2017.
Deni explained that there are a number of factors that influenced this trend. One of it is the gubernatorial debate that was aired on television. Deni revealed that the SMRC survey that was conducted on March 31 to April 5, 2017, shows that 45 percent of Jakartans watched the debate that was aired by Metro TV on March 27, 2017. 63 percent of them think that Ahok was ahead of Anies.
"Ahok's electability in the last month showed a positive trend because of his lead in the debate. Meanwhile, Anies showed a small amount of decline," Deni said.
According to Deni, the voter's choice is also influenced by the performance of the incumbent, personal quality, and the blasphemy affair. Based on the survey, 76 percent of Jakarta citizens claimed to be satisfied with Ahok's performance as a governor.
egarding the blasphemy controversy, Deni explained that 47 percent of the voters agreed that Ahok did, in fact, conducted a blasphemy against Islam. Meanwhile, 17 percent of voters were undecided. Nevertheless, Deni said that the dropping trend against Ahok peaked in December, where 62 percent of voters believe that he did defame Islam.
