TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo said the principle of presumption of innocence must be upheld to names mentioned as suspects in the graft case of the e-KTP (electronic residential identity card) project.
"The presumption of innocence principle must be upheld. Leave the case to the KPK (Corruption Eradication Commission), “Jokowi said on Saturday at JIExpo, Kemayoran, Jakarta.
Suspects in the graft case include Yasonna M Laoly, Minister of Law and Human Rights. He was formerly member of the Commission II of the House of Representatives (DPR).
The President hopes that the legal process of the graft case can proceed well. He also believes that the KPK can handle this case well.
"I believe that the KPK can act professionally to handle this case,” the President said.
For the record, the e-KTP projects used Rp5.9 trillion from the State Budget. Loss of financial state from the graft case reached an estimated Rp2.3 trillion.
