TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A 5.4-magnitude earthquake struck Banda Aceh on Friday early morning, January 13, 2017.
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Aceh office reported that the earthquake took place at 2:19 am local time, 76 kilometers of Southwest Aceh. The quake was 89 kilometer deep. It did not have potential to cause a tsunami.
During the quake, Banda Aceh locals panicked and rushed out of their homes. “I felt strong tremors, we had to get out of our homes,” said Jamal, a resident of Banda Aceh outskirts.
