TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Communication and Informatics Minister Rudiantara said that US giant tech Apple will soon establish a research & development center in Indonesia.
“Indonesia will be home to Apple’s R&D [center] outside the US, the second-largest in the world after that of Brazil,” Rudiantara told reporters Wednesday at the Idocomtech 2016 in JCC Senayan, as quoted by Antara news agency.
The R&D center will be built in 2017 in collaboration with the Communication and Informatics Ministry, Trade Ministry, and Industry Ministry.
Rudiantara said that Apple is currently applying for permits. He insists that Apple is serious about its plan to build the R&D center. “It has to, if not, it would not be allowed to sell iPhone 7, people can buy it overseas instead,” he said.
“[Permit application] process is ongoing, Apple Asia Pacific [representatives] had paid a visit, those of Silicon Valley had met with me as well, they said they had gone to find the best location,” he added.
