TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - As many as seven political parties formed a coalition, called Koalisi Kekeluargaan (Kinship Coalition), to promote candidates to face Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama in the upcoming 2017 Jakarta Gubernatorial Election.
Seven chairmen of regional executive boards of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra), the National mandate Party (PAN), the United Development Party (PPP), the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), and the Democratic Party held a meeting in Jakarta on Monday, August 8, 2016.
Bambang DH, acting chairman of the Jakarta branch of the PDP, said that the coalition had discussed the criteria for the candidates.
"We haven't talked about the candidates yet. But we managed to formulate criteria for the candidates," Bambang said on Monday, August 8, 2016.
According to Bambang, the criteria will apply to all candidates proposed by each party. Names worth to be promoted will be submitted to central executive boards of each party, before being deliberated in a coalition meeting.
"Each party will propose names. We will escalate them to central executive boards. It would be easier if the regional executive boards have an understanding," Muhammad Taufik, chairman of the Jakarta branch of Gerindra, said after the meeting.
In addition to Taufik and Bambang, other chairmen attending the meeting were Eko Hendro Purnomo from PAN, Syakir Purnomo from the PKS, Hasbiyallah from the PKB, Nahrowi Ramli frim the Democratic Party, and Abdul Azis from the PPP.
