TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Having failed to secure any Olympic medals in men’s team, Indonesian archery is preparing themselves for individual events. Riau Ega Agatha, Hanif Wijaya, Hendra Purnama and Ika Yuliana will compete in individual events from Monday, August 8, 2016.
Earlier, Ega, Hanif and Hendra competed in men’s team. They ranked 10th in the qualifying round, having beaten seventh seed Taiwan 6-2 in the first round.
In the quarterfinals, Ega & Co. faced the United States. Indonesia had to acknowledge the United States’ superiority 2-6 in the match held at Sambodromo Stadium, Rio de Janeiro, Saturday, August 7, 2016, local time.
Despite failing to grab any medals, coach Deni Trisjanto has lauded his boys. He said that they were technically perfect.
“The men’s team were extraordinary. [Indonesian] men’s team had never progressed to the Olympics before. I think it was quite an achievement because we had progressed to the quarterfinals. However, we have to acknowledge the United States’ superiority,” Deni said, as quoted from a media release received by Tempo, Sunday, August 8, 2016.
According to him, his men should have no longer had mental problems. However, anything can happen, he added. “Technically, we have no problem as I won’t [solely] assess them whether they hit the target, [I will assess them on their] technique instead. If the technique is good, they will hit the desired target. As in the previous match, the technique was good, but when they release it, it was shaky. I could happen due to heartbeat, or otherwise,” he noted.
