TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Attorney General Muhammad Prasetyo said that the Attorney General's Office will establish a special task force to investigate the Panama Papers. "I think [the special task force] will be established soon [by President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo]," Prasetyo said on Monday, April 25, 2016.
Previously, President Jokowi had requested several government institutions to coordinate and establish task force to follow up reports related to the Panama Papers. Jokowi made the request following the involvement of several high-ranking government officials in the Panama Papers documents, including Chief of the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) and Coordinating Minister of Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.
Six government institutions are said to coordinate and form a special task force, including the Financial Ministry, the Attorney General's Office, the National Police, the Financial Services Authority, the Corruption Eradication Commission, and the Indonesian Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center.
Prasetyo added that a meeting to discuss the establishment of the task force will be held this week. "Actually, the meeting had been scheduled for last week. But the President was abroad [on state visits], so it was re-scheduled for this week," Prasetyo said.
