TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Head of the Financial and Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) Muhammad Yusuf said he will discuss the transaction data of the Panama Papers with relevant ministries this week. “Either tomorrow or the day after,” Yusuf said Sunday, April 24, 2016.
The coordinating meeting will involve several parties such as Directorate General of Tax, Legal and Human Rights Ministry, Coordinating Minister of Political, Legal and Security Affairs, and Finance Ministry. The meeting will discuss the data of the Panama Papers leak.
According to Yusuf, discussion on the document will include the appointment of the coordinator of the task force to trace the case. Yusuf said that the PPATK and the government are currently validating the data of Panama Papers that are leaked to the media by comparing the data from the PPATK, Directorate General of Tax, etc.
Yusuf has yet to decide on the next step after the validation process of the secret data. According to him, the best step after it is to confirm if the money is still in tax havens or have been transferred to other regions. They will also trace the source of the funds to confirm its lawfulness.
If the funds are legal, he hoped that the government will immediately establish a regulation to force fund owners to repatriate the money. Yusuf also decline to comment on Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan whose name is listed in Panama Papers. “We have to wait for the validity of the data; we have to avoid defamation.”
