Jokowi Highlights Middle-East Conflict during US-ASEAN Summit

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - During the US-ASEAN Summit dinner event held at the Sunnylands Historic Home, California o Monday, February 15, 2016, Pacific Standard Time, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo expressed his concern towards the Iran and Saudi Arabia conflict.
"The President expressed his condolences towards the degrading relationship between Saudi Arabia and Iran. Not to mention issues related to Palestine, which remain unsolved," said Ari Dwipayana, a member of the Presidential Communications Team through a press release dated February 16, 2016.
In addition, Jokowi also highlighted the conflict that is occurring in Syria and efforts being made to fight the Islamic State of Iraq ans Syria (ISIS) terrorist group. Jokowi asserted that the Syrian conflict had resulted in other conflicts around the world. Other issues mentioned by Jokowi during the dinner include, the flow of refugees from Syria and ISIS threats, which according to Jokowi, shows no sign of slowing down.
Ari said that during the event, Jokowi also informed that he had sent the Indonesian Foreign Minister to Iran, Saudi Arabia and other countries in the middle-east to deliver messages of peace.
The President, Ari added, also explained that Indonesia had proposed a code of conduct that will contain principles on trust building, respecting other country’s sovereignty, and not to intervene with other country's internal affairs. "The President believed that [the code of conduct] is one of the keys needed to create peace in the middle-east," Ari said.
