TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Environmental Affairs and Forestry (KLHK) holds Climate Festival at Jakarta Convention Center, February 1-4 2016. The Minister of Environmental Affairs and Forestry, Siti Nurbaya said the festival entitled ‘Prevent Two Degrees Increase for the Prosperity of the People’ is held to improve the understanding of all parties on the agreement of the climate change conference, Conference on Party 21 (COP 21) in Paris, France.

“The aim of this event is if preventing two degrees increase can be understood better,” said Siti during the festival’s opening, Monday, February 1, 2016.

Siti hopes the COP results would not end in an on-paper agreement nor on political affairs level, she hopes that this agreement could be noticeably realized. Moreover, she said, climate change has already been felt by the people. “It is apparent in the shift of planting patterns and environmental disruptions,” she said.

Siti explained, to anticipate climate change with multi-sectors involvement, the ministry under her leadership could not make a move by itself. The government, Siti said, must work closely with the people.

The government must also listen to the people to establish proper guidelines based on the initiative of the people, CSO, and business doers, as they are the one who understand the most about the situations on site. “It must be done quickly as it would be better than to only criticize without providing any solution”, Siti noted.
