TEMPO.CO, Paris - Despite all of the differences between developed and developing countries in achieving a solid commitment on mitigating climate change, negotiators from 195 different countries participating in the 21st Conference of Parties (COP 21) in Paris finally managed to reach an agreement to adopt the Paris Agreement on Saturday, December 12, 2015.
"The adoption of the Paris Agreement is a historical moment for mankind," said Lauren Fabius, President of COP 21 of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in apress release dated December 13, 2015.
Statements delivered by chief delegations from member countries underlined that the agreement reflects strong solidarity among developed and developing countries to mitigate climate changes.
During the Sunday's plenary session, Indonesian Environmental and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya stated that the adoption of the Paris Agreement can be considered as a historical step in creating a better and more sustainable world and for present and future generations. Minister Siti also appreciated the solidarity and collective actions carried out by all member states and efforts made by the COP 21 President and Secretariat.
Minister Siti added that the decision to adopt the Paris Agreement was a result of consistent, transparent, and inclusive process initiated by member states.
