TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chairman of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) Commissioner General Budi Waseso said that the government had agreed to strengthen the agency that he leads.
Budi made the statement after a 2-hour coordinating meeting at the office of the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs on Wednesday (2/12).
"The meeting discussed ways to optimize the structure of BNN,” Budi said on Wednesday.
According to Budi, drugs problems are not only national problems but have also become global problems.
"So drug problems have to be tackled with a force or an institution with the authority equal to that of a ministry,” he added.
Budi also said during coordinating meeting, ministers and heads of government institutions attending the meeting discussed infrastructures and facilities needed in the future to implement programs to tackle drug problems.
He went on to say that so far, BNN had worked with the Indonesian Navy because he believed that a big number of drugs entered Indonesia through the seas.
Budi also said that in December this year, there would be an order of drugs in a big amount to Indonesia.
"They will send drugs in December. Therefore, we will take preventive measures in the seas,” he added.
The coordinating meeting was also attended by Social Affairs Minister Khofifah Indar Parawansa, Justice and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly, Chief of the National Police General Police Badrodin Haiti, and Coordinating Minister for the Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Luhut Panjaitan.
