TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat assessed that the reading culture in Jakarta seems to be very poor. The social media activity has led residents’ awareness of reading a book declining.
The development of digital era seems to advance so rapidly. Not only facilitate profession needs but digital application also provides many social media as its communication tools.
Hidayat assessed the enormous euphoria of social media could bring bad impact to the nation’s character development.
"People tend to prefer social media rather than reading a book,” he expressed, Tuesday (11/24).
Another negative side of social media is causing changes in communication patterns within the family.
“I think this is wrong. It can encourage people to be selfish and become individualist,” he remarked.
