TEMPO.CO, Bekasi - Bekasi City Wage Council has set a 2016 minimum wage of Rp3.3 million on Thursday night, November 19.  The number is higher than Jakarta of Rp3.1 million.

Head of Industry Division for Bekasi City Manpower Sudirman said the establishment is based on Government Regulation No.78 in 2015.  In accordance with the regulation, Bekasi City’s wage is up by 11.5 perent from last year of Rp2.9 million.

“The majority of participants have agreed upon the minimum wage set,” Sudirman said on Friday, November 20. The participants consist of 24 people from government representatives, labor union, entrepreneur association, and one acedemician.  From all the participants, one laborer refused to sign the agreement.

Sudirman says category I will receive Rp3,788,770; category II with Rp3,623,750; and category III with Rp3,327,160.  Once decided, he submitted it to Bekasi Mayor Rahmat Effendi to be recommended to West Java Governor Ahmad Heryawan.  “It will be delivered to Bandung today,” he said.

Head of Indonesia Board of Union Branch Bekasi City, R. Abdullah, said most of the laborers in the region will receive the new minimum wage set, considering that the national economy is currently in a difficult situation.  “The wage is considered to be adequate,” he said.

Head of Indonesia Entrepreneur Association (Apindo) of Bekasi City Purnomo Narmiadi said he approves the increased of wage and thinks that the 11.5 percent increase is quite fair for both entrepreneurs and workers.  “If there is any entrepreneur object, they can file for a suspension,” he said.
