TEMPO.CO, Palembang - During peak event of the 35th World Food Day, the Indonesian government was committed to reach food sovereignty.

This year’s World Food Day adopted the theme ‘empowering famers as the mover of the economy in an effort to reach food sovereignty.

"This theme is a concrete response from Indonesia to the global call in related to social protection and agriculture,” said Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman in South Sumatera on Saturday (17/10).

In the meantime, the international theme of the 2015 World Food Day is social protection and agriculture: breaking the cycle of rural poverty.

According to Amran, the theme is a call to all sides in the world to pay a bigger attention to the needs of groups of vulnerable people and poor people in the villages.
