TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jaya Pub is a legend among night clubs thriving in Jakarta. The club was first opened by celebrity couple Rima Melati and late Frans Tumbuan back in forty years, and it becomes the oldest club in the capital city.
At Jaya Pub we will be brought back to the 1970s, meaning that the guests –who are as old as the pub itself—would have reunion with old yet cool stuffs. For us who are in our twenties, we felt like traveling back to the past.
The atmosphere inside the 200-square-meter building got warmer as the night fell further. Cocktail glass and beer bottle clanged with old songs played in the background. People danced along the music that was played by Jaya Bar home band while squeezing old trumpets that dangled down in corners of the pub.
The bar is also full with other retro suffs that has been existing since the club was first opened in 1975.
“Although we have moved (former location is also in Gedung Jaya), we purposedly make the decoration same as before,” Rima said as written on Koran Tempo on October 9.
Age is not a boundary at Jaya Pub. The young and the old blend with each other to share stories. The absence of wireless internet and the limited menu are also not a problem because there are friends and old songs that repeatedly bring back memories.
