TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-PT Pembangkitan Jawa Bali (PJB) has inaugurated the operation of solar power station (PLTS) with a capacity of one megawatt (MW). The PLTS, which also functioned as research center, is located in Purwakarta, West Java.
PJB president director Muljo Adji said the PLTS is the power station with the largest capacity in Java Island. Investment of Rp28 billion was required to build the 1.8 hectares PLTS.
Muljo said the PLTS development was PJB’s commitment to develop new renewable energy. “We carry this out as a part of the government’s target to have 25 percent of new renewable energy in the energy mix by 2025,” he said on Thursday, October 15.
Even though the power station is a research center, the electricity from PLTS will also be sold for around Rp8-9 cents per kilo watt hour (kWh). “If the solar cell factory is in Indonesia, it could be cheaper,” said Muljo.
Muljo said he will keep promoting the use of new renewable energy in every power station. However, he said he needs the government’s support in order to achieve that.
