TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta-Youth and Sport Minister Imam Nahrawi said starting in 2016, the ministry will begin revamping the infrastructure of Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Stadium area in preparation for the hosting of the 2018 ASEAN Games in Indonesia.
“We will begin setting up in 2016 so that the stadium become a great place to do sports, shop and also watch sport events,” said Nahrawi on Sunday, October 11.
Nahrawi said the total budget for ASEAN Games is around Rp3 trillion, which will be gradually allocated to the state budget every year. The main infrastructure preparation that needs more concentration and funds is aquatic facilities in Jakarta and homes for athletes.
“We also want to build a circuit, either formula one circuit or grand prix circuit, so that people don’t have to go to Malaysia anymore,” he said.
Nahrawi continued that the master plan for the development is still being prepared until this October. After that, the design and construction plan will be presented to the public.
Nahrawi added that the 2018 ASEAN Games will become a momentum for the revival of sports in Indonesia in the eyes of the world.
“If the prepation is successful, it will be very beneficial for the nation and the next generation,” said Nahrawi.
