TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - As many as 300 athletes and officials from 14 countries have registered for 2015 Asian canoeing Championship which will be held at Lake Jakabaring Sport City, Palembang starting from November 4 to 18.
Achmad Najib, Secretary of Indonesian National Sport Committee (KONI) for South Sumatra said there are six other countries that are expected to register. Asia’s top athletes will be taking part in the competition which will be an advantage for local paddlers to gain experience.
“This event is qualification competition for 2016 olympic in Rio de Janeiro,” Najib said on Saturday, October 3.
Najib, however, admitted that haze that hits Sumatra remain to be a challenge that has to be tackled. Still, he believes that the haze will have gone by November entering the rainy season.
