TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Bambang Soesatyo, a member of the House of Representatives from the Functional Group Faction, said that the House of Representatives should not be the only institution blamed for unfinished bills.
“The laws are signed with the government. The House should not be the only one blamed for the unfinished laws, but the House conducts supervisions,” Bambang said at the House of Representatives building in Jakarta on Friday, October 2.
Bambang hopes that the House and the government would be in communication soon to discuss the issue. Bambang said that the government could not send its representatives during discussions on laws.
“Sometimes the government sent deputy ministers or directorate generals, while we expected ministers. Perhaps they were too busy working on their tasks as executives,” he said.
Bambang added that the government would likely to attend such meetings when they discussed about budgets. However, Bambang claimed, the government frequently prioritized their duties as executives when it came to discussions on laws.
Bambang admitted that the House’s performance was not satisfactory yet since the House was busy with its organization.
“It has just been a year. We spent three months fighting for positions, and there’s nothing to be proud of yet. We managed to run as a proper parliament after six months,” he added.
However, Bambang said that the House had executed its supervisory tasks well. Bambang added that the House had completed 12 bills and set a target to discuss three bills by thend of this year.
