TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The State Secretariat (Setneg) has appointed Youth and Sport Affairs Ministry (Kemenpora) responsible for the renovation of Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) sport complex in Senayan, Jakarta, as it will host 2018 Asian Games. The decision was made in a meeting between both institutions on September 17.
“The State Secretariat has authorized Kemenpora to perform renovation on GBK. However, Setneg will continue to take charge on the management of GBK,” said Gatot S. Dewa Broto, Kemenpora’s Chief for Harmonization and Partnership when being contacted in Jakarta, Friday night.
Following up the decision, Kemenpora has proposed budget amounting Rp756.5 billion for the renovation in 2015 state budget draft (RAPBN) discussion with Commission X of the House of Representative (DPR RI).
“The budget had been proposed per September 17, 2015 and is currently discussed. Tuesday next week, we will hold meeting again with Comission X of DPR,” Gatot added.
The hundreds-of-billions budget is believed to be realistic because Kemenpora has to renovate a number of crucial venues in GBK including main stadium, athletic stadium, swimming stadium, hockey court, archery field and a number of public facilities.
Gatot asserted that the renovation by Kemenpora will only performed on venues that will host sport branches featured in the 2018 Asian Games. In line with the agreement between Indonesia and Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), says Gatot, the renovation must start in 2016.
