TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - As much as 100 tons of trash from Cipinang Riverbank, East Jakarta, were removed using heavy equipment. It is targeted to be done in a week.
"In rainy season, the trash could clog the river. That's why, we will dredge it before rainy season," said East Jakarta Mayor, Bambang Musyawardhana.
Musyawardhana explained, the trash has been piled up for 30 years. Now it has been mixed with mud thus forming sediment.
Meanwhile, Head of East Jakarta Sanitary Department, Wahyu Pudjiastuti, stated that a number of trucks are prepared in the field. After the dredging, the trash will be disposed to Bantar Gebang Landfill.
"Seeing the volume, we predict it more than 100 tons. It takes a week to finish it," he disclosed.
