TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo officially opened the Indonesia Banking Expo (Ibex) 2015 at the Jakarta Convention Center. The largest banking expo in Indonesia will be held for three days starting from September 9 to September 11, 2015.

The opening ceremony was delayed for 30 minutes because Jokowi had to conduct ground breaking for the Light Rail Transit (LRT) project. Jokowi was previously scheduled to open the event at 10:30am

A number of activities have been prepared, including exhibitions held by the banking industry and small and medium enterprises, seminars, workshops and banking CEO forum. The event, themed “the Development of Digital Banking in Expanding Financial Access and Services to Public,” is to be attended by all members of the National Banks Association (Perbanas).

Perbanas chairman Sigit Pramono said that the Ibex 2015 would focus on digital banking theme due to the fact that banking services are still inaccessible for 54 percent of Indonesian people.

“Electronic banking becomes the solution to expand banking services for public,” Sigit said.

Jokowi in his speech said that that public access to banking services must be expanded.

“Technology will help us to achieve financial inclusion across Indonesia,” he said.
