Jokowi Postpones Bonus for Athletes

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta President Joko Widodo is scheduled to hand in athletes` bonuses on the National Sports Day in Senayan this afternoon. However, the event was cancelled as the Youth and Sports Ministry claimed that the cash was not yet realized.

"We are still having problem with ID and account verification. We have to postpone it," said Gatot S. Dewa Broto, spokesman of the ministry on Wednesday September 9.

President Jokowi was supposed to hand in the bonus to 29 athletes and 11 coaches from Indonesia that played in the Special Olympics World Games 2015 Los Angeles, United States, Gold medalists are going to receive Rp200 million, silver medalists Rp100 million, and bronze medalists Rp50 million. Coaches and assistants will receive Rp60 million to Rp25 million per person.

Gatot added that he will try to accelerate the verification, making it as soon as possible. "We will see if we can deliver it by Monday," he said.
