TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Jusuf "JK" Kalla said most conflicts in Indonesia were mainly caused by injustice that stems from unequal welfare.
"After being independent for 70 years, we have experienced 15 large-scale conflicts with hundreds of thousands of victims," said Kalla on Monday, August 31, 2015. "They were all caused by injustice."
According to Kalla, injustice was mainly caused by unequal development programs. For example, there are certain regions that receive high priority for development programs compared to other regions. "There are political, social and economic injustice," JK said.
The Vice President gave an example on the Madiun uprising, the DI/TII rebellion and Poso conflict, which were all caused by social, cultural and political inequalities.
"Each region feels they have natural resources, but they are not managed well, so they rebelled," Kalla said.
JK said that in the future, in order to avoid conflict, the government will focus on achieving equal welfare and justice for all regions by properly managing natural resources scaterred in different regions in the country.
