Migrant Workers Can Reduce Unemployment, Lawmaker Says

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Member of Commission 9 of the House of Representatives (DPR) Adang Sudrajat said that re-sending Indonesian migrant workers abroad could reduce the number of unemployment due to layoffs.
"By giving opportunities for those migrant workers to abroad again, the state’s burden could be reduce on condition that there will be no more ill-treatment for those migrant workers,” he said in Jakarta on Saturday, August 29.
The current economic slowdown, Adang said, has cause domestic business world unable to maintain the stability of their products, leading to layoffs.
Previously, Manpower Minister Hanif Dhakiri reported that in the fist seven months in 2014, around 30,000 people had been temporarily laid off by their companies and most of them are from manufacturing sector such as garments.
