Food and Beverage Industry Growth Reaches 8.64%

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The food and beverage industry growth have reached 8.64 percent in Q1/2015, which experienced a slowdown compared to Q1/2014 of 10.14 percent.
“Nevertheless, the food and beverage industry growth in Q1/2015 is way higher than non-oil industry growth in the same period, which is 5.26 percent,” Industry Minister Saleh Husin said in Bekasi on Tuesday.
The food and beverage industry sector contributes 31.20 percent towards the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of non-oil processing industry.
Meanwhile, non-oil industry contributes 86.96 percent towards processing industry or 21.02 percent towards the national GDP.
The role can also be seen from the contributions of export value of food and beverage products in May 2015 that reached $2,263.1 million.
The number is up by 4.05 percent compared to the export value in May 2014, which is $2,175,0 million.
“The matter showed that the food and beverage industry sector plays a significant role in economic growth in Indonesia,” said Minister Saleh.
