Developers Ask PLN to Relax Electricity Installation Rules

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Real estate developers have asked the State Electricity Company (PLN) to relax requirements of new electricity installation for households with 450 volt ampere and 900 volt ampere.
Indonesian Real Estate Chairman (REI) Eddy Hussy said that the electricity subsidy restriction had hampered low income families (MBR) to acquire permit for new electricity installation with 450-900 VA capacities.
“Low income families don’t need 1,300 VA capacity because they live a simple life. Huge power capacity would lead to inefficiency because the electricity base price is high,” Eddy said in a press release as quoted by Bisnis.com on Friday, August 21.
The electricity base price for 900 VA capacity is set at Rp 900 per VA, while that for 1,300 VA is set at Rp 1,350 per VA. Eddy explained that the PLN requires public to submit relief letter (SKM) when applying for new electricity installation with capacities of 490-900 VA.
Eddy argued that the policy would disrupt one million houses program aimed at low income families.
“Low income families deserve to be facilitated with subsidized electricity. So, they don’t need to submit SKM,” he said.
