TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chicken scarcity in markets across Jakarta have caused prices to increase sharply, reaching up to Rp 45,000 for a whole chicken. "Prices have gone up after Eid al-Fitr," Riko, a merchant in Lenteng Agung Market, said on Wednesday, August 19, 2015.
Riko said that several merchants in some markets, including in Lenteng Agung, went on a three-day strike because they ran out of chicken supplies.
Vendors claimed that the increasing price of chicken was not triggered by a recent increase in beef prices, but because of other factors.
"Companies now limit poultry sales," said Riko.
