TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bank Indonesia said that economic sovereignty cannot be achieved if a nation refused to reflect on its actions because economic challenges often demand quick and dynamic responses.
"[Indonesia] cannot be great nation based on large consumption," said Bank Indonesia Governor Agus Martowardojo at his office on Monday, August 17, 2015.
Agus asserted that changing the country's economic policy to focus on production will improve the country's competitiveness. Agus said that a country’s economy will improve if it has an industry- based economic policy.
"Therefore, we cannot do everything by importing [goods]," Agus said. Agus added that developing the industrial sector will also opens new job opportunities.
