Pressure on Rupiah Continues: Nasution

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta- Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution said the pressure on the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar is likely to continue.
"There are international (economic)issues, there are also regional and domestic. Because of the combination of three factors, it inevitably creates pressure on the rupiah," said Nasution in Jakarta on Friday, August 14.
Nasution said there are several factors that made the rupiah exchange rate remain depressed, including lack of market confidence and low incoming investment.
The rupiah against the US dollar weakened in recent months. On Friday morning, the exchange rate in the inter-bank transactions in Jakarta fell 56 points to Rp13.765 per US dollar.
According to Nasution, one way to improve the value of the rupiah against the US dollar is to invite foreign investment, especially in the form of foreign exchange (forex).
"It all really depends on how successful we can invite (businesses), whether we like it or not, incoming investment, particularly in the form of dollars and in foreign currency," he said.
"If there are capital inflow then the pressure will quickly subside," Nasution added.
