TEMPO.CO, Jakarta- President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo criticizes the freedom of press which he says are currently getting out of control. Today’s media only focuses on ratings without having concerns to guide the public, he said.

“The media only prioritizes in ratings rather than guiding the public to value morality and productive work,” President Jokowi said in the plenary session with the Parliament on Friday, August 13.

The President said in order to pursuit ratings, people can easily be trapped in public hysteria in responding to an issue, especially when concerning sensational issues.

“Without political civility, law maners and constitution, and economic discipline, we will loose optimism and slow in solving other issues, including economic challenges,” said Jokowi.

In his previous speech, Jokowi reminded state institutions to maintain solidarity and is considered important in the hope of binging peace and welfare to the people.
