Bulog Launches Beef Market Operation in Bandung

    TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The West Java branch of State Logistics Agency (Bulog) conducted beef market operations in Bandung to reduce meat price post-Lebaran holiday.

    “The market operations were conducted in three markets, namely Pasar Sederhana, Cihaurgeulis and Kosambi,” Bulog’s procurement director Wahyu said in Bandung on Sunday, August 9, 2015.

    Although the Idul Fitri moment has passed, beef remains sold for Rp 120,000-130,000 per kilogram. Wahyu said that Bulog conducted beef market operation as instructed by the government to reduce the price to Rp 90,000 per kilogram.

    “We have prepared 250 tons [of beef] with an allocation of 2-2.5 tons for each market,” Wahyu added.

    City Agriculture Agency head Elly Wasliah said that daily beef consumption in Bandung were relatively high, reaching 90-100 cows to be slaughtered to meet the demand.

    “There was no slaughtering last night due to no supply. Earlier, 130 cows were slaughtered,” she said.
