Qatar Expresses Interest in Padang Tourism

TEMPO.CO, Padang - Padang Mayor Mahyeldi Ansharullah said that Qatari investors are interested to develop a tourism business in Padang, West Sumatra.
“Qatar is interested in developing Padang Beach tourism,” Mahyeldi said after attending a special plenary session held by the city’s Legislative Council on Friday, August 7, 2015.
The city administration has established Mount Padang Tourism Integrated Zone (KWT)—comprising Padang Beach, Kota Tua (old town), Marina Batang Arau Port, Mount Padang and Air Manis beach—as a special zone prioritized for tourism development.
According to Mahyeldi, the city administration has prepared necessary feasibility studies and detail engineering design for the development.
“We would like to facilitate the investors. That’s why we prepared the feasibility study and the detail engineering design,” he added.
Mahyeldi revealed that investors from Australia and South Korea have also expressed interest in the development. He added that investors from both countries were particularly interested in developing a port in Bungus, a city with 19 islands and huge water areas.
