Gov't Tightens Control on E-Commerce

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government planned to tighten its control on online trade conducted by foreign business players by drafting a presidential decree on e-commerce.
Trade Ministry's director for business development Fetnayeti said that foreign business players who conduct online transaction with consumers in Indonesia are considered operating in Indonesia.
Foreign business players will also be included in the government's priority. Any complaints from consumers related to their services will put them in the government's black list.
In the draft, online business players will be divided into three categories: merchant, operator and temporary operator.
Indonesian E-Commerce Association chairman Daniel Tumiwa said that business players have discussed every issue in the draft, Daniel added that talks between the government and business players have also been conducted.
Daniel said that any issues unregulated by the decree will be addressed through other means.
