TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama plans to integrate motorcycle-taxi (ojek) service providers, such as Go-Jek and Grab Bike, with Transjakarta.
Ahok hoped that Go-Jek and Grab Bike will be able to support the tasks and functions of Transjakarta buses in the streets of Jakarta. Ahok explained that the Jakarta government will attempt to provide support for ojek drivers to improve their economy.
"I know there will be more ojek drivers in Jakarta this way, but it's alright. We will continue to apply restrictions on main thoroughfares. For main thoroughfares [the Jakarta government] will prioritize public buses," Ahok said.
In addition to improving public welfare, Ahok said that Go-Jek and Grab Bike can help with goods distribution in Jakarta. "Why do I support Gojek and Grab Bike? Because they not only transport passengers but can also deliver documents, or foods. This can reduce the number of private vehicles on the road," Ahok said.
