TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - All flights departing from the Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali have been cancelled starting from 12:00 AM Central Indonesia Time until 6:00PM Central Indonesia on Thursday, August 6, 2015, following another eruption of Mount Raung, which spews more volcanic ashes.
"Based on observation by respective institution, we decided to close down the airport because Mount Raung volcanic ashes have disrupted flights from and to Bali," said Trikora Harjo, General Manager of Angkasa Pura I on Thursday, August 6, 2015.
The Transportation Ministry has issued warnings to all airlines regarding the close down. According to Trikora, Angkasa Pura will continue to monitor any development and said that the airport will be opened immediately if the sky is clear of volcanic ashes.
In the last few weeks, Mount Raung has displayed increasing volcanic activity, spewing volcanic ashes south and southwest of the volcano.
