TEMPO.CO, Jakarta- The islands of Pangkajene, South Sulawesi Province, owns 36,000 hectares of coral garden under its sea waves.
Unfortunately, most of the coral reefs are severely amaged that is indicated by less variety of coral reef fish. Pangkajene Resort Police has found that fish bombing, cyanide use, and direct coral mining are the causes of the damages.
The police then initiated a coral transplantation program to save the coral. The program transplant corals in 15-meter depth to restore the underwater life around the 113 islands.
A number of diver communities from Makassar such as Oye Dive Adventure, Grandpa Community, Popsa Dive Center, and Skuba Dubidu are taking part in the program.
