TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), Ma'ruf Amin, has asked the government to resolve issues on the management system of the Social Security Agency (BPJS), which is considered to be in contradiction with Sharia principles.
MUI has requested a meeting with Health Minister Nila Moeloek, Health BPJS CEO Fahmi Idris, Financial Service Authority (OJK) Chairman Muliaman Hadad, and President Joko Widodo.
"We expect the meeting to take place as soon as possible," said Ma'ruf on Thursday, July 30, 2015.
Ma'ruf was surprised to know that the debate on the BPJS being against the Sharia principle occurred only recently. Ma’ruf claimed that the MUI had issued the fatwa nearly a month ago.
Ma'ruf argued that the government should prepare a BPJS mechanism that is in accordance with the Sharia principle.
