BRI Opens Singapore Branch

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bank BRI (Persero) has officially opened a new offshore branch in Singapore on Wednesday, July 29. Coordinating Minister of Economy, Sofyan Djalil, and SOE Minister, Rini Soemarno, were present in the inauguration.
BRI CEO Asmawi Syam said that the new offshore branch has added the number of BRI service offshore. "Previously, we have had offshore branches in New York, Hongkong, and Cayman Island," he said.
Asmawi said that according to the Moneter Authority of Singapore (MAS), BRI can only open as an offshore branch. It means that BRI can only serve transaction for corporate clients. "We can improve this. It depends on our effort," he said.
Asmawi added that BRI opted Singapore because it serves as a trade hub in Asia-Pacific. It is expected that BRI can expand its coverage to other ASEAN countries.
