TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Transportation Minister Ignasius Jonan has issued a regulation on drone usage which states that drone operation requires permit. The Ministerial Regulation No. 90/2015 on Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Operation Control was issued on May 12, 2015.
The regulation states that drone cannot exceed 150 meters in altitude, unless under government operation. Drone operation on that altitude will also require permit from Air Transportation DG of the Transportation Ministry.
In response to the regulation, drone rental businessman, Muan Sibero, said that they do not mind the regulation. He said that drone operation needs regulation as it can be dangerous. "A mistake can result in it crashing," he said.
However, he said that the regulation failed to discuss in details about the needs of drone users. "The regulation says that it cannot get any higher than 150 meters. However, many activities require more altitude," he said. "I suggest that the regulation should also look up on region and needs factor.”
