TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bandung Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecasted that weather condition during the observation of the new moon or hilal today, which will determine the coming of Eid al-Fitr, will be clear. However, the new moon is believed to be difficult to spot in the afternoon.
Mahasena Putra, Director of the Bosscha Observatory in Bandung, said that despite the sunny skies, the hilal will be difficult to see. "With the naked eye, although sunny, it is almost impossible," Mahasena said.
However, using a filtered telescope that only allows certain light spectrum, it is possible that the hilal could be detected during daytime.
From the website of Moonsighting.com, the appearance of the new moon on Thursday, July 16, 2015, will be hard to detect by observers in Indonesia. "It is impossible to see the hilal on Thursday," said one of the hilal observers Achmad Iwan Adjie. The hilal will be visible to the naked eye on Friday, July 17, 2015.
