TEMPO.CO, Lumajang -Prices of chicken eggs fell drastically to Rp 17 thousand from the previous Rp 20 thousand per kilogram following the flood of supply of chicken eggs on the market. The local administration in a surprise inspection in Lumajang, Monday, July 13, 2013 found the price of chicken eggs in the range of Rp 17 thousand to Rp 18 thousand.
Hartini, an egg trader in Pasar Baru Lumajang said, the price of eggs dropped since the past two days. She said, at this time it is not hard to source eggs.
Head of Lumajang Animal Husbandry Office Gatot Subiantoro during the spot checks said there is a large supply of eggs from outside the area that could depress local prices.
Gatot said, the decline in the price of eggs is expected to be a viable alternative for consumers of food other than meat. "It could be an alternative to meat. Due to the current beef price has reached Rp 110 thousand per kilogram," he said. The price of meat increased sharply from a recent Rp 90 thousand per kilogram.
