TEMPO.CO, Jakarta -Wood products and its derivatives that have received the wood legality certificate (SLK) will be able to enter the European Union this year as the negotiation process with the EU in Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (FLEGT) will enter its final phase in September 2015.
Ida Bagus Putra Parthama, director general of sustainable forest management at the Forestry Ministry, said that after the negotiation process is finished, all certified wood products will not go through stringent due diligence process in the EU.
"[The negotiation] will finish at the end of this year. [Document] signing may take place in October. After a ratification, Indonesian wood products will enter Europe through the green line, not through due diligence," Ida Bagus said on Wednesday, July 8, 2015.
Putra said that in the next negotiation process, there are three issues that will be discussed, including Export Declaration, the Indonesian government's follow-up on uncompliant management units, and evaluation period.
With the ratification of the negotiatin's result, the government is optimistic that Indonesia's wood producs will become more competitive and can gain a larger share of the market.
